The 10-episode fantasy adventure series is a prequel to the groundbreaking 1982 fan favorite The Dark Crystal, and takes place many years before the events of the film. The series will be shot in the U.K., and will star an ensemble of fantastical, state-of-the-art creatures created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop™ and Brian Froud, the original feature’s conceptual designer.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance returns to the world of Thra with an all new adventure. When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.

Feature film director Louis Leterrier (Now You See MeThe Incredible Hulk) will executive produce the series and direct. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will be a Netflix original series produced by The Jim Henson Company and executive produced by Letterier, Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford. Longtime Henson collaborator Rita Peruggi will serve as producer and Henson’s Blanca Lista will serve as a co-executive producer. Leading the writing are co-executive producers Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (Life in a Year), and Javier Grillo-Marxuach (LostThe 100).

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will combine the art of puppetry perfected by The Jim Henson Company, with Louis’ vision, powerful storytelling and a mix of cutting-edge digital imagery and visual effects,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix. “I can’t wait for families around the world to see how we bring these unique characters to life.”

“Louis Leterrier is passionate about the world of The Dark Crystal and has an incredible creative vision for the series. He brings this passion to every facet of the production as he leads the talented team of artists and writers that are bringing this entire universe to life,” said Lisa Henson, CEO of The Jim Henson Company. “Netflix has a deep respect for my father’s original work and the many people it inspired. They are the perfect partners to create this next epic chapter in The Dark Crystal story for new fans and the loyal fans who have waited so long for more adventures from this world.”

FAE Magazine would like to share some very happy and joyous news, and give a very warm faery welcome to new faery baby, Sebastian Froud! and huge congratulations to Mother Sarah and father Toby Froud, and of course the very proud Grandparents Brian and Wendy Froud, and Sarah’s parents too.

As reported on Facebook today by close friend of the Froud’s, Terri Windling-Gayton:

“There’s a brand new Froud amongst us! Hooray! Welcome to our beautiful, maddening, inspiring and amazing world, Sebastian Froud. And congratulations to parents Sarah and Toby, to grandparents Wendy and Brian, and to his other grandparents and relatives too. He is certainly a baby surrounded by deep magic and love. (The picture here, by the way, was painted by Brian, before Toby was born.)” – Terri Windling-Gayton via Facebook.

Then allow your imagination to really soar as you see yourself taking part in Brian Froud’s first ever faerie art master class, and just when you thought it could not get even better! Wendy Froud appears and facilitates a master class where she will share many things including how to breathe life into a sculpture through an understanding of “anatomy with integrity.”

She will enable the class to understand how to breathe life into a sculpture through an understanding of “anatomy with integrity.” The master model-maker will share her knowledge and technical expertise about how to construct an armatured creature that is fully capable of expression through movement. The head, hands, upper torso and feet will be sculpted while participants gain knowledge of proportion and technique. Students will work with the artist to paint their sculptures and finally finish them with embellishments of hair, costumes and accouterments. Wendy has given similar, abbreviated creative workshops in the past, and her students have always been overwhelmingly pleased about the artistic growth and inspiration they gained.

The Liminal Line – Drawing the Unseen | Brian will share his insights into the inner world of Faerie and teach his unique process of using a sketchbook and pencils to express and develop style, emotion and characters. Students will discover new realms of their own inner creative spirits when Brian shows them how to build pathways to new places in their imaginations.

He will show participants how the expressive use of line and color is a response to an impulse that exists in everything around us, and how to use it effectively as a tool when developing characters and finished drawings.

Both master classes are serious but light-hearted workshops, with no previous or professional experience required.

Fairy Day is a holiday sprung from the imagination of fairy artist:
Jessica Galbreth

The following text is taken from the official Fairy Day website:

There is a veil between the worlds

Years ago, what would seem like many to those of us of mortal blood, but what is really just a twitch of time to the ageless stars and eternal moons, the world of mortal and the world of fairy were separated. Mortal man had become too populous, too jaded, too fast for the easier, more genteel pace of the fairy blooded, so they chose to leave this place and create their own They live now in another level of our world where a veil of magic has been created to divide us from them and keep their lives free of our hectic, desperate struggle to progress. A level close enough for them to keep watch over us, to keep our imaginations alive with periodic night rides through the countryside, witnessed by the lucky few staring out of misty windows on a night seemingly burdened with insomnia. The worlds are so alike, so close in kind they might even be seen as parallel worlds, if not for the beings that inhabit them. Their world is the stuff of legend for our world. The winged and horned and magic creatures unlike any we know here. The beings of rock, of water, of air and fire and spirit. ~ Jacqueline Collen-Tarrolly, artist, February, 2006
